Stretch marks are caused by a tearing of the dermis, or inner layer of skin. This tearing usually results from rapid weight gain and/or pregnancy but changing hormones can also influence their formation. Puberty can therefore cause their onset as can building muscle. Stretch marks can present anywhere on the body but they are most commonly found the abdomen, breast and thighs. New stretch marks appear reddish in colour while older stretch marks face to a silvery hue.

Stretch marks can be treated using laser therapy. This works by stimulating the production of collagen in the skin, which promotes elasticity and thickens the skin beneath the stretch mark. Laser therapy also causes the fibroblasts (connective tissue cells) in the skin to divide. This in turn reduces the appearance of stretch marks.

During laser therapy the clinician commences the treatment by applying a microdermabrasion product which has been developed specifically for this purpose. An abrasive cream, this stimulates the skin cells being treated and prepares them for the second phase of the treatment using 3 different lasers.
In our Essex clinics we offer a wide range of treatments, laser lipo can help sculpt problem areas of the body and works well alongside stretch mark treatments.
