What is Juvéderm™ VOLUMA™?
Juvéderm ™ VOLUMA ™ is a hyaluronic volumiser that is injected to recontour the face. It restores volume to the chin, cheeks and cheekbones when age related facial fat loss causes them to become hollow or thin. The results are very even and natural looking and are noticeable immediately. It can also rejuvenate the effects of a facelift that is sagging.
Hyaluronic acid is a substance that occurs naturally in our bodies and helps to keep our skin hydrated. However the body produces less of it as we get older and its ability to moisturise and plump up our skin is therefore diminished. Juvéderm™ VOLUMA™ uses hyaluronic acid to restore the lost volume to our facial contours.
Juvéderm™ VOLUMA™ results
Results are noticeable immediately and are very natural. There is no downtime associated with having a Juvéderm ™ VOLUMA ™ treatment and you can get on with your life straight afterwards.
Juvéderm™ VOLUMA™ differs from wrinkle fillers like Juvéderm™ ULTRA in that it has been designed to restore lost facial volume rather than treat fine lines and wrinkles. It is better suited to larger scale facial volumising and improves the contours of your face.
In a clinical study, all participants rated their results as positive even at 6 – 8 months after they received the treatment. The vast majority also indicated that based on their own experience they would recommend it to others.
Juvéderm™ VOLUMA™ usually lasts for about 18 months. However age, physiology and lifestyle can influence the duration of results, as can the amount injected and the technique used to administer it.
Before your Juvéderm VOLUMA treatment
You should not take aspirin for at least 3 days before your treatment, as it increases the risk of bruising and swelling. Those on anti-coagulant treatment will also have increased risk.
There are some contraindications related to this type of treatment, so you need to inform your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, as well as about any previous history of auto-immune diseases, immunotherapeutic treatment, allergies, hypersensitivity to hyaluronic acid, tendency to develop hypertrophic scars and inflammation or infection at the injection sites.
You should also tell your doctor about any previous aesthetic treatments you have had, and you are not advised to have Juvéderm ™ VOLUMA ™ at the same session as laser, surface or deep chemical peeling or dermabrasion treatment.
During and after your Juvéderm VOLUMA treatment
Your practitioner can offer you a local anaesthetic to prevent you feeling any discomfort during your treatment, depending on the injection technique used.
Afterwards there is the possibility that you will experience redness, slight swelling or bruising at the area that was treated, but it should be short-lived and easily hidden with makeup. Of course, if these effects persist for longer than a week or you have any other side effects you should inform your doctor.
You will be advised not to put pressure on or massage the treatment area for a few days afterwards. It is also advisable to avoid extended exposure to temperatures below freezing or strong heat such as that experienced in saunas, steam baths and by UV rays.
You will then be able to enjoy the youthful results and renewed self confidence your Juvéderm™ VOLUMA™ treatment has given you for around 18 months.
