Botox - FAQ's

What is Botox used for?

Botox is generally used to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, particularly in the upper half of the face. The favoured choice of celebrities, Botox is great for reducing the appearance of wrinkles in the forehead, between the eyebrows and around the eyes (crows feet). In addition, patients experience a lifting of the skin around the eye area which can give the eyes a more ‘awake’, less stressed, more youthful appearance.

Areas which benefit from this treatment include glabellar frown line, horizontal forehead lines, mild brow ptosis, crows feet, infraorbital lines, zygomaticus and risorius lines, perioral folds and rhytides, and folds including radial lip lines, melomental folds and mouth frown, apple dumpling chin and mental crease. Both vertical and horizontal neck lines and bands also respond well to this treatment.

How does it work?

Botox works by reducing the extent to which muscles in the upper face create lines and wrinkles. A series of very small injections are made at the treatment side. Within a few days the full effect of the treatment becomes visible.

Is it safe?

Botox has been approved for use by medical professionals for over 20 years. Used correctly by a specially trained medical professional, it is a very safe treatment.

Who administers the treatment?

Botox should only be administered by a fully qualified and experienced medical practitioner. All of our injectable treatments are administered by our own specialist, female, medical aesthetics doctor.

I have a pre-existing medical condition – can I still have this treatment?

Please contact our clinic for specific guidance.

What are the potential side effects?

Side effects with this treatment are uncommon. Most likely is slight bruising after immediately after treatment. This can arise following any injectable treatment but if it does it is merely temporary. Some patients may experience a headache temporarily after their treatment but this is easily remedied with an everyday painkiller. Numbness of the forehead is also possible but again temporary. Very rare but possible is brow ptosis but again this is temporary.

Will it be obvious that I have had this treatment?

It takes a few days for the full effects to be visible, and even then, you can determine how strong an effect you require – some patients request stronger treatment than others – the choice is yours. You will be able to return to everyday activities immediately afterwards. Nobody need know your secret!

Will I still have movement in my face?

Yes – it is not necessary to have a ‘frozen’ look as a result of this treatment. Many newscasters for example benefit from Botox but still ensure their face is able to communicate expressions.

How long does it take?

The treatment is administered quickly in a matter of a few minutes.

Does it hurt?

The treatment is administered using a very fine small needle. Patients report it to be less painful than hair removal. Our experienced, sympathetic and caring staff are on hand to support you throughout your treatment.

How long do the effects last?

The effects vary from one patient to another and lifestyle influences can also be an important factor. Generally the effects of the initial treatment last up to 6 months; patients often find subsequent treatments last much longer.

The fact that 90% of patients go on to repeat this treatment is testament to the degree to which its effects are valued. Nothing else compares to Botox – try it for yourself and see how good you can look.
