Skin Rejuvenation Treatments - FAQs

What is a skin rejuvenation treatment?

These are commonly referred to as a chemical peel. Their main ingredients are generally found in natural substances derived from fruit and sugar. They work by safely encouraging the removal of the upper layers of the epidermis to reveal better looking skin underneath. Their results can be quite dramatic as the epidermis is treated at a far deeper level than with any other treatment.

Does it hurt?

Superficial peels produce a mere slight tingling effect. Stronger treatments produce a stronger, stinging sensation but this is well tolerated by all of our patients and lasts only for a minute.

How will I look immediately afterwards?

After superficial peels you will look positively glowing! With stronger treatments you might look slightly flushed as if you had been to the gym but this is a mild effect which soon wears off. Nobody will be able to tell that you have just had a treatment for the first couple of days.

Can I still live my life normally while my skin is peeling?

Absolutely. Although we can plan the days during which you may have flaking of the skin around your lifestyle to suit you best. But rest assured, during your course of treatments you can carry on with your life as normal.

I would like a TCA peel. Why do I need to have 4 treatments?

For optimum results, the TCA peel is designed as a course of 4 treatments. It is not advisable to just have one treatment. With each treatment the TCA’s active ingredients penetrate to even deeper levels of the epidermis – the deeper the penetration the better a result you will achieve from your treatment. You will see a visible difference after one treatment but full effects from a course of 4 weekly treatments are not seen until later.

Im planning a holiday – when should I have a peel?

It is advisable to have this treatment on your return from holiday.

I have a big event coming up soon – when is the best time to have a peel?

If you are having an Easy Phytic treatment you could have this on the day of the event, if not 1 week before. Glycolic peels are best 1 week prior. TCA peels need 5 weeks notice.

How often can I repeat my treatments

Easy Phytic and Glycolic treatments can be repeated weekly for the first few treatments and monthly thereafter. 3 courses of TCA peels can be undertaken in any 1 year although it is advisable to leave a month between each course of treatment. Most patients are delighted with the results of a course of TCA and find that just 1 course of treatments is sufficient.
