Recovery After Lipo
Liposuction is popular, but it is a major surgical procedure and as such you will need to prepare for the recovery time after lipo. Throughout the years, there have been new methods of liposuction introduced. These have been introduced to help reduce risk and to reduce the recovery time. When you make the decision to undergo liposuction you should think carefully about your options.
Recovery after Traditional Lipo
- Traditional liposuction requires general anesthetic, an incision is made in the area where the lipo will be done and the procedure is done with an instrument called a cannula which sucks the fat out of the body.
- Recovery after lipo of this type is usually quite painful and takes about 6 weeks.
- During recovery compression garments should be worn. Some patients will need to stay in the hospital overnight while others may need to stay a few days.
- The final results are visible three months after lipo surgery.
Recovery after Wet Lipo
Wet lipo is also done under general anesthetic. The difference between this type of lipo and the traditional method is that fat cells are loosened before they are suctioned out of the body. Loosening the cells beforehand helps to reduce bruising and pain during recovery, however the basic recovery after lipo of this type is still the same as traditional lipo, just with slightly less bruising and pain.
Recovery after Tumescent Lipo
Tumescent lipo is similar to wet lipo. It also uses a process to loosen the fat before it is suctioned. However in this type of lipo there is more solution used so that fat loosens and releases from the muscles more readily. This substantially reduces the amount of bruising and pain after lipo. The process of tumescent lipo is more risky than the other two types of lipo, as this method requires a longer time under anesthesia, which increases risks during surgery.
Recovery after Non-surgical Lipo
Non-surgical lipo methods have fewer risks than surgical and the recovery time is greatly reduced.
Smart lipo is done without the need for general anesthesia. This point alone greatly reduces the risks of the procedure. The bruising and swelling is kept to a minimum. Compression garments are only required for several weeks, cutting the recovery time in half.
Another method that has even fewer risks and a quicker recovery is Laser Lipo. As the name suggests, this method uses a laser. There is no incision made into the body, which means no swelling at all. There is also no need for anesthesia. Recovery is minimal as patients can return to work immediately after the procedure.
When it comes to recovery after lipo, it all depends on what happens during the lipo procedure. The more invasive the procedure, the longer and harder the recovery time will be. It is important when considering any type of lipo that you get all the details on the procedure and the recovery so you can make the decision on which method is best for you.
