The Benefits of Laser Lipo over Traditional Liposuction

With obesity rates rising faster than the national debt, it is no surprise that liposuction is the most popular type of cosmetic surgery. In fact, according to recent statistics, doctors perform more than half a million procedures a year.

Laser Liposuction - why not just have surgery?

Liposuction isn't quite as easy as it sounds. Really, it's more than just vacuuming out the fat. There can be complications. Like what?

  • Liposuction can put too much strain on the body.
  • You will need to take time off work to recover from invasive liposuction unlike laser liposuction.
  • Laser liposuction is much cheaper than traditional liposuction.

Since most people are inclined to procrastinate and everyone enjoys a quick fix, patients frequently request two or three liposuctions at once. This often puts undue stress on the body, prolongs recovery time, and even increases the risks of surgery.

Unfortunately, not all plastic surgeons will discourage patients from having lots of  liposuction at the same time, which is why many of them schedule multiple liposuctions on the same day. However, as any ethical doctor will tell you, patients should give themselves at least four weeks to recover from any single procedure.

Laser Liposuction - does it really have less risk involved?

But that is not what is going in the operating rooms of most plastic surgeons. In reality, many of these doctors choose to do multiple, unrelated surgeries simultaneously. For example, it is not uncommon for patients to schedule a liposuction along with another procedure like a facelift or a breast augmentation surgery. As we mentioned, this can be incredibly dangerous, especially if the patient requests a time-consuming procedure.

Liposuction requires invasive surgery unlike laser lipoHow dangerous is liposuction? Though the number of fatalities has dropped in recent years, it is still one of the riskiest plastic surgery procedures. The most recent records from doctors around the US attribute nearly one hundred deaths to liposuction surgeries.

Most of these fatalities are due to normal complications that arise as a result of surgery. For example, blood clots in the lung (pulmonary thromoembolism) are a common complication of using general anesthesia, and there is really no way around it. Infection is another possible complication that claims the lives of dozens of liposuction patients each year.

Although these risks may be relatively minor when you consider the number of procedures, many potential liposuction patients are scared off by them. That is one of the reasons why laser liposuction is an increasingly popular alternative. What is laser lipo? As you might expect, it is a new procedure that uses lasers in place of traditional surgical methods.

Laser Liposuction - so why laser lipo?

Why? Well, for starters, it is much safer and quite a bit cheaper, too. And, just like old-fashioned liposuction, laser lipo can be used on common problem areas like the stomach, the hips, the thighs and the chin.

How does it work?

Basically, laser paddles that emit a beam are positioned over the desired area. These paddles are capable of penetrating the skin and seeking out fat cells. Amazingly, the patient doesn't feel anything save a warm sensation during the laser liposuction procedure. There is absolutely no pain, no needle, and no cutting. That also means that there is no recovery time. Best of all, the technique is FDA approved and has been successfully performed on thousands of satisfied patients.

So, don't subject yourself to all of the pain and risk of traditional surgery, make sure you consider how laser liposuction works. Talk to us at one of our clinics in Essex to find out how you can benefit from this new procedure.
